From the depths of the Forgotten Champions range comes The Maw Beyond, a nightmarish entity that defies the boundaries of sanity and flesh. Sculpted by the talented Haito, this single-model kit erupts from its rocky base in a writhing mass of sucker-lined tentacles, hollow maws, and grotesque eyes that stare into eternity. Every inch of this piece pulses with eldritch menace, making it a centrepiece worthy of any tabletop warband or display collection.
The sculpt captures a creature that has torn through the veil between worlds, its body a chaotic fusion of cephalopod horror and primordial nightmare. Multiple tentacles coil and lash outward, each covered in deeply recessed suckers that beg for a careful wash to bring out the texture. The central mass is riddled with toothy maws and lidded eyes, giving painters countless focal points to explore. This is a model that rewards time and ambition at the brush.
Standing tall on an integrated cracked-stone base, The Maw Beyond is an imposing presence on the tabletop. The base measures approximately 60mm in diameter, placing this beast firmly in large-monster territory. Whether used as a boss encounter, a summoned horror, or a faction mascot, this Forgotten Champions release delivers maximum visual impact for competitive and narrative play alike.
Supplied as a high-detail resin miniature requiring assembly and painting. Designed for use with 28mm to 32mm scale tabletop miniature games. Sculpted by Haito. Squad size: 1 model.
Painting Guide: The Maw Beyond - MonsterThis guide will help you bring The Maw Beyond to grimdark life. The palette leans into deep oceanic shadows and sickly pallid flesh, a combination that suits the Forgotten Champions aesthetic perfectly.
1. Prime
- Apply a zenithal prime using black from below and bone white from above to pre-shade the deep sucker recesses and raised tentacle ridges naturally.
2. Armour Base
- Basecoat all flesh and tentacle surfaces with a pale sand or rawhide tone to establish a sickly, sun-bleached pallor across the body mass.
- Apply a thin layer of desaturated green-grey to the lower tentacles and underbelly to suggest deep-sea cold and decay.
3. Trim and Details
- Pick out each sucker rim individually with an off-white highlight, then glaze the inner cup with a deep purple or violet ink to create depth and a wet, organic look.
- Paint the multiple eyes in contrasting amber or sickly yellow, adding a black slit pupil to each for a predatory, alien quality.
4. Weapons
- The toothy maws should be basecoated in a deep crimson-brown, then highlighted up through red to a pale pink at the tips of the teeth for a raw, fleshy appearance.
- Add gloss varnish inside each mouth to suggest saliva and viscera, heightening the horror of this Forgotten Champions centrepiece.
5. Weathering
- Apply thin washes of green-black around the base of tentacles and the underside of the body to suggest slime, deep-sea grime, and the residue of other dimensions.
- Drybrush raised tentacle ridges and sucker rims lightly with pure white to restore crispness after washing and to suggest bleached, toughened hide.
6. Bases
- Paint the cracked stone base in dark grey, wash with black-brown, then drybrush with mid-grey and light stone. Add a gloss puddle effect in the cracks using water effects medium tinted with green ink to suggest a blighted, otherworldly terrain.
