“They don't need feeding or sleep, just oil and a reason to run. The forges that built them never stopped to ask if they'd come back.”
Rustland's Wolves

Robodogs are the fangs of the Rustland's Wolves pack, four cybernetically augmented war hounds sculpted in extraordinary detail and supplied as physical resin miniatures, supports already removed and cleaned, ready to assemble and paint.

Supplied unpainted.

The set covers four distinct poses that tell a complete story of a pack in motion. The first figure is a heavy, barrel-chested brawler standing its ground, jaws open wide, organic muscle fused with articulated mechanical legs and armoured plating bolted across its back. The second crouches low in a stalking pose, mechanical haunches coiled and ready, gears and pistons visible where flesh meets frame. The third is caught mid-sprint, body fully extended, a blur of organic torso and mechanical limbs eating up ground in a dead charge. The fourth sits upright in an eerie posture of controlled readiness, collar locked tight, cybernetic augmentations running down its forelegs, alert and waiting for a command that will end badly for whoever is on the receiving end.

Each figure is 32mm scale and arrives as a physical resin miniature. All four were sculpted by 42studio, whose eye for anatomy and mechanical integration gives each piece a weight and believability that holds up under close inspection on the painting table.

These Robodogs work as companion pieces to the wider Rustland's Wolves range or as standalone additions to any sci-fi warband that could use a pack of heavily augmented, entirely lethal hounds running point.

Painting Guide: Rustland's Wolves - Robodogs

The hybrid design of these figures rewards a two-track approach, treating organic flesh and mechanical components as separate painting problems before bringing them together with unified weathering.

1. Prime

  • Apply a grey or neutral black primer across all four figures to give equal coverage to both flesh and metal surfaces.
  • A zenithal highlight from above in white or light grey will help define the raised mechanical plating before you lay down any colour.

2. Armour Base

  • Base the mechanical legs, plating, and bolted armour panels in a dark iron or gunmetal tone such as Leadbelcher or Scale75 Heavy Metal.
  • Wash the metal areas heavily with Nuln Oil or a dark brown ink to pull shadow into the recesses between pistons and joints.

3. Trim and Details

  • Pick out rivets, bolt heads, and raised panel edges with a lighter silver or steel to create contrast against the darker base coat.
  • Small accent colours on cables or sensor lenses, deep red or sickly yellow, add visual interest without distracting from the overall palette.

4. Flesh and Fur

  • Base organic areas in a mid-brown or grey-brown depending on the breed look you are aiming for, then layer up through lighter tones toward the raised muscle definition.
  • A selective wash around the jaw, throat, and chest adds depth and emphasises the sculpted musculature.

5. Weathering

  • Chip and scratch the armour plating using a fine brush and a dark brown, focusing on edges and corners where metal would take the most punishment.
  • Rust streaks applied with a stippling sponge or thin brush running down from bolt heads reinforce the Rustlands aesthetic across the whole squad.

6. Bases

  • Cracked earth texture paste or rubble scatter in ochre and brown tones suits the arid, post-industrial setting and ties the four figures together as a coherent unit on the table.
