Rangers of the No Man's Land delivers its most imposing figure yet in the Sheriff, a one-man posse who carries the full weight of the frontier on his back and means it literally. A battered coffin rides high between his shoulders, lashed in place with heavy chain links that cross and wrap around his coat like a second skin. Beneath the wide brim of a star-pinned cowboy hat, a gas mask filters whatever passes for air out here. A lawman's badge hangs at his chest, a buckle marks his belt, and a long rifle rests easy at his side. Every detail speaks to a character who has outlasted the world that issued his badge and kept riding anyway.
Supplied unpainted.
This piece stands as a centrepiece for any warband built around the scorched frontier setting. The coffin strapped to his back raises the model's visual height considerably, making him immediately readable on the table at wargaming distance. The chains wrap with enough detail to reward close inspection during painting. Sculpted by 42studio, the Sheriff carries the same hard-worn authority as every other figure in this range.
The miniature arrives as a physical resin model with supports already removed. Assembly may be required for multi-part sections before painting. Scale is approximately 32mm to eye level.
Painting Guide: Rangers of the No Man's Land - SheriffThe Sheriff rewards a palette built around bleached leather, aged metal, and sun-faded fabric. The coffin and chain are the real showpieces and deserve time and care.
1. Prime
- Apply a light grey or off-white primer to preserve shadow detail across the coat and coffin grain
- A zenithal highlight from above in white helps establish instant contrast before colour work begins
2. Armour Base
- Block in the coat and trousers with a warm desaturated tan such as Zandri Dust or Rawhide
- Shade the recesses with a diluted brown wash to pick out every button, seam, and pocket crease
3. Trim and Details
- Paint the star badges and belt buckle in a tarnished silver base, then pick out raised edges with bright silver for a worn metal look
- Work the gas mask in dark rubber tones, leaving the filter housing in a contrasting dusty yellow to match the established range aesthetic
4. Weapons
- Base the rifle in gunmetal grey and apply a brown wash to suggest wood grain on the stock
- Drybrush worn silver along the barrel to indicate heavy use and sun bleaching
5. Weathering
- Stipple diluted brown and ochre tones across the lower coat and boots to suggest dust and dried mud from long travel
- Apply rust streaks from each chain link downward using a thin orange-brown mix and a fine brush or torn sponge
- Chip the coffin wood with a fine brush loaded in dark grey to suggest old cracks and damage
6. Bases
- Use cracked earth texture paste or a dry blend of ochre and buff to tie the Sheriff into the sun-baked wasteland setting of the wider Rangers of the No Man's Land range
- Add a scatter of fine sand, small stones, or a painted cactus fragment to reinforce the frontier atmosphere
