The Gorgwork Mechdread is a brutish, heavily armoured hulk built for close-quarters devastation on the grimdark battlefield. Standing 70mm from top to bottom, this single miniature arrives as a physical resin kit, supports already removed and surfaces cleaned, ready for assembly and painting. The model comprises 12 individual parts, giving hobbyists the flexibility to pose arms and weapon loadouts before committing to glue.
The silhouette of the Gorgwork Mechdread is unmistakably aggressive. A domed, exhaust-studded helmet sits atop a barrel-chested torso wrapped in layered armour plates, bolted panels, and looping chains. The figure hunches forward with menace, its massive clawed fists and blunt weapon arms conveying raw, industrial power. Every surface is packed with grim detail: rivets, vents, skull motifs, serrated waist trim, and mechanical joints that reward careful brush work at every stage.
With 12 interchangeable parts, the Gorgwork Mechdread offers meaningful build variety. Left and right arms can be swapped between claw fists and heavy weapon options, letting you tailor the model to your preferred battlefield role. The torso and leg assembly are robust and straightforward to pin or glue. This piece was sculpted by DakkaDakka, whose eye for brutal mechanical detail is evident across every surface of the model. This is a centrepiece-quality model that also functions perfectly as a rank-and-file heavy in larger warband lists.
Scale and compatibility: the model stands 70mm and is cast in high-detail grey resin. It fits a standard oval or round base and scales well alongside most 28mm to 32mm sci-fi skirmish ranges.
Painting Guide: Gorgwork Mechdread- Sci-Fi Wargaming MiniaturesThe following guide walks through a worn, industrial paint scheme that suits the brutal aesthetic of this model. Work in thin coats and build up colour gradually for best results.
1. Prime
- Apply a grey or black spray primer in thin, even coats across all parts before assembly or after a dry-fit test.
- Ensure recesses and undercuts are fully covered before moving to base colours.
2. Armour Base
- Basecoat armour panels in a dark iron or charcoal grey, such as Leadbelcher or Iron Hands Steel.
- Apply a second lighter pass on raised surfaces to establish early contrast.
3. Trim and Details
- Pick out bolts, chains, and rivets with a brass or bronze tone to break up the metallic monotony.
- Paint skull motifs and serrated trim in off-white or aged bone to draw the eye.
4. Weapons
- Basecoat claw tips and weapon barrels in black, then drybrush with dark steel for an oil-stained finish.
- Add a thin wash of dark brown into joints and recesses to suggest grease and wear.
5. Weathering
- Use a sponge or stippling brush to dab chipping medium or a mid-grey across armour edges for battle damage.
- Apply a pin wash of black or dark brown into panel lines, vents, and chain links to deepen contrast.
6. Bases
- Texture the base with industrial grit or rubble paste, then drybrush with pale grey or concrete tones to complement the model's grimdark palette.
This is an adult hobbyist collectible, not a toy. Not suitable for children under 14 years due to small, detailed parts.
