The Wai Toa Roroa Captain is a towering figure of brutal authority, clad in heavy terminator-scale resin armour bristling with savage detail. This physical 32mm scale resin miniature arrives pre-printed, with supports already removed, and is ready to assemble and paint straight from the box. Every surface tells a story of relentless conquest: studded pauldrons, skull-adorned chains, a maw-like collar ringed with serrated teeth, and a fearsome helmet that speaks to the predatory nature of this elite warrior caste.

Sculpted by AtlanForge, this single-pose captain benefits from a modular multi-part construction, offering several head, pauldron, and arm options so you can personalise your build. The fine detail work across the armour panels, mechanical claws, and trophied waist chains rewards careful painters and makes this model a true centrepiece for any grimdark warband or display shelf.

The Wai Toa warrior tradition is steeped in oceanic mythology and relentless void warfare. This captain embodies that legacy with every line of his silhouette: hunched, powerful, and ready to close distance with terrifying speed. The hanging skulls, corroded trim, and layered plate speak to centuries of brutal campaign, making him equally compelling as a wargame commander or a standalone collector piece.

This model is suited to experienced hobbyists who appreciate high-resolution resin casting and intricate surface detail. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted, giving you full creative control over your finished result.

Painting Guide: Wai Toa Roroa Captain

The following guide is designed to help you bring this Wai Toa captain to life with a battle-worn, deep-ocean grimdark palette. Take your time between stages and allow each layer to dry fully before progressing.

1. Prime

  • Apply a grey or black spray primer evenly across all assembled or sub-assembled parts to ensure full coverage in the recesses of the armour.
  • Allow to cure fully before handling, at least one hour in a warm, dry environment.

2. Armour Base

  • Basecoat the main armour plates in a dark blue-grey such as Mechanicus Standard Grey or a similar mid-dark tone.
  • Apply a secondary thin coat of a cooler grey on the raised panels to begin establishing the zenithal light source from above.

3. Trim and Details

  • Paint the studded bosses and collar teeth in bone or aged ivory, using thin successive layers for a smooth finish.
  • Bring the skull trophies to life with a wash of sepia or brown ink, then drybrush lightly with a pale ivory highlight.

4. Weapons

  • Base the mechanical claw blades and single dagger in a dark metallic such as Leadbelcher, then shade with a dark wash to build depth.
  • Edge highlight the blade tips and claw points in a bright silver to create a cold, lethal edge.

5. Weathering

  • Stipple a rust-brown paint sparingly around bolt heads, joints, and lower leg armour to suggest age and harsh environments.
  • Add salt chipping or sponge chipping in a lighter grey-blue on the pauldrons and chest plate for a worn field-campaign look.

6. Bases

  • Texture the base with a mix of coarse sand and small grit, paint in dark stone tones, then add a gloss medium to recessed areas to suggest pooled liquid or tidal residue consistent with a deep-ocean battlefield aesthetic.

This is an adult hobbyist collectible, not a toy. Not suitable for children under 14 years due to small, detailed parts.
