The Vortex-Blessed Squad arrives as a set of five physical resin miniatures, each standing 34mm from feet to eyes, cast in clean grey resin with supports already removed and surfaces cleaned, ready to assemble and paint straight from the box. Supplied unpainted.
These are corrupted daemon warriors drawn from the brutal, warp-touched ranks of a cursed warband, sculpted with the savage, mutated energy of fighters who have given themselves entirely to dark powers. Each figure in the squad shows a different stage of daemonic transformation: partial armour plates fused to writhing flesh, elongated claws, bone-blade weapons, tentacles, bat-like wings, and runic scripture worked into cloth and metal. The central champion carries a skull-topped standard and a heavy axe, lending the group a clear focal point on the tabletop. Every pose is distinct, giving the squad visual variety without sacrificing cohesive identity.
Sculpted by DakkaDakka, the detail work across all five figures is precise and characterful, with textures ranging from pitted armour plating to distended, scarred skin sitting alongside mechanical components corrupted by warp influence.
The Vortex-Blessed Squad suits players and collectors who want a cohesive unit with strong narrative presence, whether fielded as a squad on a ranked battlefield or displayed as individual centrepiece characters. The resin captures fine surface detail cleanly, and each miniature sits on a plain round base ready for your own basing materials.
Painting Guide: The Vortex-Blessed Squad (x5)These five figures reward a two-tone approach that plays the deep crimson armour against the pale, sickly flesh tones of their daemonic bodies. Work across all five together to keep the palette consistent.
1. Prime
- Apply a grey or black spray primer to all five miniatures, ensuring full coverage inside recesses around claws, tentacles, and armour joints.
2. Armour Base
- Basecoat all armour plates with a deep, muted red such as Mephiston Red or equivalent.
- Shade the armour recesses with a dark brown or black wash to add depth to panel lines and rivets.
3. Trim and Details
- Pick out chain links, buckles, and mechanical components with a dark iron or gunmetal, then apply a light silver drybrush for edge wear.
- Paint runic tablets and bone blades with a pale bone base, shaded with a thin brown wash and highlighted back to near-white on the raised edges.
4. Weapons
- Paint axe heads and claw tips with a desaturated metal, then glaze the edges with a thin red tone to suggest heat or corruption.
- The skull standard topper suits a polished gold basecoat shaded with a dark sepia wash, highlighted back up with a bright gold on the raised surfaces.
5. Weathering
- Stipple chipping marks onto armour surfaces using a sponge and a dark brown, concentrating damage around shoulder edges and knee plates.
- Apply subtle OSL effects in a sickly yellow-green around the eye lenses using thin, layered glazes.
6. Bases
- Texture paste in a grey rubble or cracked earth style ties the squad together and contrasts well with both the red armour and the pale flesh tones.
This is an adult hobbyist collectible, not a toy. Not suitable for children under 14 years due to small, detailed parts.
