“They came down from somewhere above the ash, five abreast, armour fused black at the joints. Nobody asked what they'd stared at to end up that way; the question didn't survive long enough to matter.”
The Great Vortex Knights Build Kit arrives as a set of five physical resin miniatures, each standing 32mm from feet to eyes, cast in clean grey resin with supports already removed and surfaces cleaned, ready to assemble and paint straight from the box. Supplied unpainted.
These are corrupted warrior-knights drawn from the brutal, warp-touched ranks of a cursed warband, sculpted with the savage, mutated energy of fighters who have stared into the void and returned as something altogether more terrible. Their ornate power armour carries the marks of long campaigns, draped robes hang heavy with grim trophies, and each warrior carries an arsenal of brutal close-range weapons alongside heavier ordnance for those who prefer their enemies dealt with from a distance.
The kit contains 83 parts across 58 unique components, giving you the freedom to build five distinct warriors with meaningful variation in pose, weapon load-out, and equipment. Parts include 5 heads, 5 shoulder pads, 5 bodies, 5 pairs of legs, 5 backpacks and decorative pieces, plus 58 arms and weapons covering bolt weapons, heavy guns, combat blades, and sidearms. Each warrior can be built to feel genuinely individual within a cohesive warband identity.
Sculpted by DakkaDakka, the Great Vortex Knights carry the same grim, warp-scarred character found throughout this range, with sharp surface detail that rewards careful brushwork and picks up washes cleanly.
Painting Guide: The Great Vortex Knights - Build KitThe rendered models show a deep crimson armour scheme with aged gold trim, dark robes, and weathered steel weapons. The guide below follows that palette closely.
1. Prime
- Prime with a black or dark grey spray for strong shadow retention across the armour panels and cloth folds.
2. Armour Base
- Base coat all armour plates with a deep red, such as Mephiston Red or equivalent.
- Apply a thin layer of a slightly warmer mid-red over raised panels, leaving the recesses dark. Finish with a targeted highlight of orange-red along sharp edges and corners.
3. Trim and Details
- Base the trim and helmet visors with a dark gold or brass tone, then shade with a brown wash to settle into recesses.
- Highlight the uppermost edges of trim with a pale gold or silver to give a worn, burnished finish.
4. Weapons
- Base gun bodies and blade spines with dark steel or gunmetal, then wash with a dark brown or black ink.
- Edge highlight with bright silver. Pick out any energy cells or lens details with a yellow-green to suggest active power.
5. Weathering
- Apply small chips and scratches to armour edges using a sponge with a dark brown, followed by a thin silver line along the lower edge of each chip.
- Streak diluted brown or rust tones vertically down armour panels to suggest age and hard use.
6. Bases
- Several sculpts include skulls at the feet. Paint bone in a cream base, wash with sepia, and highlight with off-white. Finish the base rim in a dark grey or matte black to keep focus on the model.
This is an adult hobbyist collectible, not a toy. Not suitable for children under 14 years due to small, detailed parts.
