“He does not dig for what is buried. He calls it up, and it comes ash-caked and reeking, and it kneels.”
Sylas arrives as a 75mm physical resin miniature sculpted from Print Fantasy's range, depicting a towering demon warlock caught mid-stride, power crackling at his fingertips and dark intent carved into every line of his face. One hand grips a gnarled wooden staff topped with a snarling skull, while the other reaches forward, long taloned fingers splayed wide as though drawing forbidden energy from the air itself. Curved goat horns sweep upward from his brow, and a mane of wild hair streams behind him, giving the whole figure a sense of unstoppable forward momentum.
Every surface of the sculpt rewards close attention. Feathered shoulder scales give way to taut, corded muscle across his torso, and a worn loincloth hangs from a belt adorned with a smaller skull trophy. His legs end in cloven, fur-tufted hooves, planted with predatory confidence on a craggy rocky base. The staff itself is beautifully detailed, carved with spiralling grooves and crowned with a fanged skull that mirrors the ferocity of the figure holding it.
This miniature ships as a physical resin casting with supports already removed and surfaces cleaned, ready for assembly where needed and primed for painting. At 75mm scale, Sylas makes an imposing centrepiece for a display shelf, a dungeon-crawl collection, or any dark fantasy warband.
This piece was designed by Print Fantasy, whose range consistently delivers high-detail, character-driven sculpts for serious hobbyists.
Painting Guide: Sylas - 75mm Resin MiniatureAt 75mm scale there is plenty of surface area to develop smooth transitions and rich textures. The following guide offers a solid route through the model from base coat to finished base.
1. Prime
- Apply a zenithal prime using black from below and white or light grey from above to pre-shade the figure and reveal all surface detail before you begin.
2. Skin and Body
- Base the skin in a warm mid-grey or ashen tone such as Rakarth Flesh mixed with Mechanicus Standard Grey for a pallid, otherworldly look.
- Layer up towards the raised muscles with successively lighter mixes, then glaze the recesses with a thin purple-brown wash to add depth without losing the cool palette.
3. Robes and Cloth
- Paint the tattered loincloth and wrappings in a dark earthy brown, then drybrush the frayed edges with a sandy highlight to suggest age and wear.
- Add subtle green or blue-grey tints into the deepest folds to keep the shadows from looking flat.
4. Staff and Skull Details
- Paint the staff in a bleached bone or aged wood tone, working up from a dark brown base coat and edge-highlighting the carved ridges with pale ivory.
- Pick out all skulls, including the belt trophy and staff topper, in a warm off-white, then wash with Agrax Earthshade and re-highlight the brow ridges to pop the detail.
5. Horns and Talons
- Start the horns in dark grey at the base, transitioning to ivory or off-white at the tips, blending carefully with thin glazes for a natural keratin appearance.
- Paint the taloned fingers in a similar bone tone, darkening the very tips with a brown-black mix to suggest sharpness.
6. Weathering
- Apply thin streaks of brown and rust-tone wash along the cloth edges and across the staff to reinforce the battered, ancient feel.
- Use a fine brush to stipple small chips and scuffs onto the belt and any armoured surfaces if desired.
7. Base
- Paint the rocky rubble base in dark stone tones, drybrush with mid-grey and then light grey, and finish with a thin glaze of teal or blue around the edges of any cracks to hint at arcane energy seeping through the ground beneath him.
