Sci-fi devotees of the machine god take to the saddle in this grim and imposing set of resin cavalry miniatures, the Styxmoon Numidarii. Each rider is clad in heavy segmented plate adorned with devotional iconography, mechadendrite-like equipment clusters, and the unmistakable aesthetic of a cult that worships the divine engine above all else. The mounts are barded in matching armoured plating, giving the entire unit a cohesive, industrial menace that looks outstanding on any grimdark battlefield.

This set contains 4 physical resin miniatures, each sculpted by DakkaDakka. The models measure 31mm from feet to eyes, placing them firmly in the heroic scale range compatible with most major wargame systems. Supports have already been removed and the pieces have been cleaned and sanded where needed, so they arrive ready to assemble and paint. Riders and mounts are separate, allowing for straightforward gluing and minor posing adjustments before you apply your primer.

The squad of 4 offers variety in weapon loadout, with options visible across the unit including long-barrelled rifles, a pistol, and close-combat blades. This makes the Styxmoon Numidarii flexible enough to represent fast-moving skirmish cavalry or a dedicated fire support lance depending on your chosen rules system. The detail quality across each sci-fi figure is sharp, with crisp panel lines, rivets, skulls, and cog motifs rewarding careful brush work at every stage.

Whether you are expanding an existing machine cult force or building a new warband from scratch, these riders bring dramatic visual presence and strong thematic identity to your collection.

Painting Guide: Sci-Fi Machine Cult Cavalry - Styxmoon Numidarii

The palette below leans into a cold, industrial look with tarnished silver armour and warm bronze trim, evoking a sacred but battle-worn aesthetic suited to devoted machine warriors.

1. Prime

  • Apply a grey or black spray primer evenly across all surfaces, including inside the legs of the mount.
  • A black base coat deepens recesses for a dramatic contrast finish.

2. Armour Base

  • Basecoat all plate armour with a dark metallic grey such as Leadbelcher or equivalent.
  • Wash heavily with a dark brown or black shade wash to settle into panel lines and joints.

3. Trim and Details

  • Pick out devotional trim, cogs, and cabling with a warm brass or bronze tone.
  • Add a brown wash to brass areas and then re-highlight with a bright gold for a worn sacred-metal look.

4. Weapons

  • Paint rifle barrels and blade edges with a bright silver highlight over a dark steel base.
  • Add subtle rust streaks with a stippled orange-brown to suggest heavy use in the field.

5. Weathering

  • Drybrush raised edges of armour panels lightly with a bright silver to simulate battle wear.
  • Apply a thin oil wash or pigment powder in grey-brown tones to the lower legs and hooves for a dusty, campaign-worn finish.

6. Bases

  • Use a textured paste in a pale ash or grey tone, drybrushed bone white, to complement the cold industrial colour scheme of the sci-fi cavalry unit.
