Sabertooth Riders are a fearsome addition to any grimdark sci-fi warband, combining the raw predatory power of armoured sabertooth mounts with heavily equipped power-armoured warriors. Each rider is clad in thick, skull-adorned battle plate and carries a brutal arsenal including a roaring chainsword and sidearm, while the sabertooth beneath them wears fitted armour plating, riveted carapace panels, and twin forward-mounted cannon barrels. These are warriors who have bonded with apex predators and turned them into living weapons of war.
This listing includes one Sabertooth Riders unit consisting of a single mounted warrior and sabertooth beast, supplied as a physical resin miniature. Supports have already been removed and the model has been cleaned and sanded where needed. It arrives ready to assemble and paint. The mount stands approximately 60-70mm at the shoulder, making it an imposing centrepiece or cavalry unit on the battlefield. The sculpt is packed with fine surface detail, from the fur texture of the beast to the micro-detail of the rider's backpack equipment and skull trophies.
Produced by Atlan Forge, these miniatures are designed for collectors and competitive wargamers who want something with character and presence on the tabletop. The Sabertooth Riders fit naturally into aggressive fast-attack or cavalry roles and pair well with other power-armoured infantry forces. Whether you are building a themed army or adding a dramatic centrepiece, this model delivers at every angle.
Assembly requires plastic-compatible or resin-grade super glue. Plastic glue will not bond resin. Handle with care to preserve fine details during assembly and storage.
Painting Guide: Sabertooth Riders - Sci-Fi Wargaming MiniaturesThe following guide walks you through a recommended painting approach to get the most out of the incredible detail on these models. The contrast between the organic fur of the beast and the cold hard armour of the rider gives you a great opportunity to explore different techniques in a single model.
1. Prime
- Prime the whole model with a grey spray or brush-on primer for a neutral mid-tone base.
- Consider zenithal priming with white from above to pre-shade the model and bring out the sculpted fur and armour details before applying colour.
2. Armour Base
- Base coat the power armour in your chosen chapter colour. Deep blues, forest greens, or bone whites all read well against the beast's natural tones.
- Apply the armour colour in thin, even coats to preserve the fine panel lines and rivets on both the rider and the mount's carapace plating.
3. Trim and Details
- Pick out the trim, skulls, and decorative elements in gold or brass using a small detail brush. These elements reward precision and add visual richness.
- Paint the fur of the sabertooth in warm earth tones, building from a dark brown base through mid-tan highlights and finishing with a light cream or ochre on raised fur tips.
4. Weapons
- Basecoat the chainsword in dark metal and drybrush with silver to replicate a worn, battle-used finish. Add a spot of red or orange for blood weathering if desired.
- Paint the cannon barrels in gunmetal grey and add a dark brown or black wash into the barrel openings to create depth.
5. Weathering
- Apply a brown or black wash over the entire armour surface, wiping back on raised areas to leave shadow in recesses.
- Drybrush edges of armour plates with a bright silver to simulate battle damage and wear. Stipple rust tones onto the riveted carapace of the beast for extra grit.
6. Bases
- Match your basing theme to the rest of your warband. Cracked wasteland, dark urban rubble, or frozen tundra all complement the savage nature of the Sabertooth Riders well.
