The Rat Clan Gargant Digger Rat is a towering, heavily armoured brute designed for those who want a centrepiece model that dominates the battlefield. Standing 36mm from feet to eyes, this single-model unit captures the grimdark essence of a mutant rat beast burdened with industrial plating, chains, and a wiry rider clutching an explosive charge above its head. Every surface is packed with detail, from the riveted barrel armour strapped to the creature's back to the articulated claw guards and spiked knuckle plates on its fists.
This physical resin miniature arrives with supports already removed and surfaces cleaned, ready for assembly and painting straight out of the package. The kit comes in 4 parts: the main body, an alternate head option, and two chain sections that can be posed as you prefer. The alternate rat skull head gives you a second display option without any additional modelling work. At 36mm to eye level the model has a commanding presence on a standard 60mm round base.
The Rat Clan aesthetic leans hard into scavenged industrial brutalism. Chains, bolted armour panels, skull motifs, and oversized mechanical attachments combine to create a faction identity that feels dangerous and unpredictable. This model suits any grimdark skirmish or mass-battle game that calls for a large monstrous unit with a distinct character.
Whether you are building a themed warband or adding a single impressive piece to a larger collection, this Rat Clan model rewards careful painting and offers plenty of surface area for freehand, weathering, and object source lighting experiments.
Painting Guide: Rat Clan - Gargant Digger Rat MiniatureThis guide walks you through a gritty, industrial colour scheme that suits the savage character of the model.
1. Prime
- Use a grey or black aerosol primer to get into all the recesses around the chains and armour plates.
- A zenithal highlight with white primer from above helps define the forms before you apply any colour.
2. Armour Base
- Basecoat all armour panels with a dark iron or gunmetal grey.
- Apply a mid-tone brown to the leather straps and cloth sections on the rider.
3. Trim and Details
- Pick out rivets and raised edging with a bright silver to create contrast against the darker panels.
- Paint the skull motifs and bone details with a pale bone or off-white base colour.
4. Weapons
- Base the explosive device in a deep red and highlight up with orange on the upper edges.
- Paint the chains in a dark steel tone, then drybrush lightly with a bright silver to bring out the links.
5. Weathering
- Apply a dark brown or black wash across all armour and metal surfaces to fill recesses and add depth.
- Stipple patches of orange-brown rust at joints, edges, and bolt heads using a torn piece of blister foam.
6. Bases
- Use texture paste or coarse sand in dark grey tones to suggest an industrial or underground setting that matches the Rat Clan theme.
