Painting Guide: Odin Daughter 1

This guide is written for intermediate painters working with standard acrylic hobby paints. The palette leans into a cold Norse palette of iron, aged leather, and ice-touched fur to complement the Odin Daughter's aesthetic.

1. Prime

• Apply a thin, even coat of grey primer to preserve all the fine surface detail on the fur cloak and runic base.
• A zenithal highlight with white from above helps map where natural light will fall and speeds up shading later.

2. Armour Base

• Block in the armour plates with a dark iron metallic. Leadbelcher or equivalent works well as a first pass.
• Apply a deep blue-black wash across all metal areas to settle into the recesses and create instant depth.

3. Trim and Details

• Pick out belt studs and shield bosses with a bright silver highlight, applied with a small detail brush to the topmost edges only.
• Paint leather straps in a mid-brown, then wash with a dark brown shade. Drybrush lightly with a tan to lift the texture.

4. Weapons

• Paint the axe head in the same iron metallic as the armour, then add a thin rust glaze along the lower edge for wear.
• Handles can be done in a worn wood tone. Stipple a lighter cream colour across the grain lines for a natural effect.

5. Weathering

• Use a small piece of torn blister foam to stipple battle damage onto the shield face in silver, concentrating near the spiked rim.
• A thin glaze of dark red applied selectively to axe edges and shield dents suggests hard use without looking cartoonish.

6. Bases

• Paint the runic rim in a cold stone grey, wash with a blue-grey shade, and drybrush with off-white to make the carved symbols read clearly.
• Add tufts of winter grass or pale lichen to the ground area of the base to reinforce the Norse wilderness theme.
