The Minoan Toxotai are a squad of five elite heavy infantry warriors, sculpted by AtlanForge and cast in high-detail resin at 32mm scale. Each figure in this set arrives as a physical resin miniature, supports already removed, cleaned and ready to assemble and paint. Drawing on the iconography of ancient Aegean civilisations fused with brutal far-future warfare, these warriors wear layered power armour adorned with carved spiral friezes, feathered crests, horned helms, avian skulls and ornate pteruges. They carry oversized bolt rifles, sniper weapons and heavy launcher arms, each weapon engraved with meander-pattern detailing that reinforces the ancient Minoan aesthetic running throughout the squad.

The five poses are each distinct. One warrior kneels and takes aim down a long-barrelled scoped rifle. Two stand upright bracing heavy assault rifles across their chests. A fourth holds a wide-bore launcher on one shoulder and raises a cybernetic arm with a mounted blade. The fifth stands broad and dominant, armour wrapped in layered bone-beads and skulls. Together they form a cohesive, visually rich unit that reads as both ancient and brutally futuristic on the tabletop.

These figures are designed for experienced hobbyists seeking characterful infantry with deep surface detail and strong narrative presence. The Minoan Toxotai slot naturally into grimdark sci-fi armies inspired by Mediterranean or Aegean aesthetics, and their scale and proportions are compatible with standard 32mm wargame systems. Bases are round lipped 32mm and are included.

Squad size: 5 figures. Scale: 32mm. Material: high-detail resin. Sculptor: AtlanForge.

Painting Guide: Minoan Toxotai

These figures reward a methodical approach. The layered armour plates, carved ornamental borders and organic skull trophies each benefit from separate colour treatment. The guide below covers a scheme inspired by deep cobalt armour with aged bronze trim, referencing Aegean antiquity through a grimdark lens.

1. Prime

  • Apply a grey primer coat evenly across all surfaces, holding the can or airbrush 20-25cm away to preserve fine engraved detail on the meander friezes and armour edges.
  • Check recesses around the pteruges, bead strings and crest fins are fully primed before moving on.

2. Armour Base

  • Basecoat all armour panels in a deep cobalt blue such as Macragge Blue or equivalent, using thin coats to build opacity without filling detail.
  • Apply a second thinner coat if needed to achieve solid coverage, paying attention to the curved pauldrons and chest plate faces on the Minoan Toxotai figures.

3. Trim and Details

  • Paint all carved borders, pteruge edges and ornamental raised lines in a mid-tone bronze such as Hashut Copper or Brass Scorpion.
  • Shade the bronze areas with a thin wash of Agrax Earthshade or equivalent to age and darken the recesses between the meander patterns.
  • Pick out skull trophies and bone trophies in Ushabti Bone, then wash with Seraphim Sepia for warmth.

4. Weapons

  • Basecoat the weapon bodies in a dark gunmetal such as Leadbelcher, then apply a targeted wash of Nuln Oil into every panel line.
  • Highlight the top edges of the bolt rifle casings and launcher barrels with Stormhost Silver for a worn metallic sheen.

5. Weathering

  • Stipple thinned Rhinox Hide onto armour lower edges and knee plates to suggest mud and grime consistent with a veteran warband.
  • Apply small scratches and chips using a torn piece of blister foam loaded with a mid-grey highlight colour along armour leading edges.

6. Bases

  • Texture the base with a sandy stone paste or fine grit, then paint in Dryad Bark and drybrush with Tyrant Skull for a pale archaeological ruin effect that complements the Minoan Toxotai aesthetic.
