Manik, Chief of the Skull Riders, is a single physical resin miniature sculpted by Taiga Miniatures, standing 32mm from feet to eyes and arriving ready to assemble and paint. This ferocious tribal warlord is posed mid-battle cry, one knee raised on a rocky outcrop as he hurls a bone-tipped spear overhead with savage intent. His off-hand grips a brutal shield adorned with a skull motif and jagged bone spikes, reinforcing the barbaric, death-worshipping aesthetic of his warband.
The kit comes in 4 parts, allowing for clean transport and easy assembly before painting. Supports have already been removed and the parts cleaned, so you can move straight to gluing and basing. The sculpt features exceptional surface detail across his layered leather skirt, strapped greaves, segmented bracers, and wild mane of hair. Every element tells the story of a warrior who has survived countless battles and taken trophies from each one.
Manik fits naturally into grimdark fantasy warbands, raider factions, and savage warrior armies. Whether used as a fearsome warband leader in skirmish games or as a centrepiece on a display shelf, this miniature rewards careful painting with striking results. The dynamic pose and clean resin casting make him one of the most expressive hero models in the Taiga Miniatures range.
Scale: 32mm from feet to eyes. Supplied unpainted and requires assembly with hobby glue. Painting and basing materials are sold separately.
Painting Guide: Manik, Chief of the Skull RidersThis guide is designed to help you bring Manik to life with a grimdark, blood-soaked tribal palette. Each stage builds on the last for maximum depth and contrast.
1. Prime
- Apply a zenithal prime using black from below and a light grey or bone white from directly above. This establishes natural shading before any paint is applied and makes the raised details on his armour and musculature immediately visible.
2. Armour Base
- Basecoat the leather skirt and straps with a mid-brown such as Rhinox Hide, then layer up with Mournfang Brown and edge-highlight with Skrag Brown.
- Paint the greaves and bracers with Zandri Dust and wash with Agrax Earthshade to settle into the recesses and add age to the material.
3. Trim and Details
- Pick out bone and skull elements with Ushabti Bone, wash with Seraphim Sepia, and highlight with Screaming Skull for a bleached, sun-dried finish.
- Paint small metal rings and clasps with Leadbelcher, wash with Nuln Oil, and stipple lightly with Runefang Steel for a worn metallic look.
4. Weapons
- Basecoat the spear shaft with Mephiston Red, shade with Carroburg Crimson, and highlight along the ridges with Evil Sunz Scarlet and a final edge of Wild Rider Red.
- Paint the spear tip and any bone blades with Ushabti Bone shaded in Reikland Fleshshade, then apply thin washes of Bloodletter glaze near the tip to suggest dried blood.
5. Weathering
- Drybrush the shield and armour edges lightly with Tyrant Skull to simulate wear and dust on the battlefield surfaces.
- Apply small chips and scratches on the shield face using a fine brush and a mix of Rhinox Hide beneath Runefang Steel to create layered battle damage.
6. Bases
- Paint the rocky outcrop with Mechanicus Standard Grey, wash with Nuln Oil, and drybrush progressively with Dawnstone and Administratum Grey. Add a few tufts of dry grass and small pebbles for a bleak, windswept battlefield feel that complements the model's savage energy.
