Dogs of War - 32mm Resin Miniature Squad

The Dogs of War are a squad of a handler and his three brutish, cyber-augmented war hounds that blend savage animal ferocity with layers of industrial plating, mechanical implants, and baroque ornamentation pressed into every inch of their armoured forms. Thick riveted panels wrap their flanks, gear-studded collars circle their throats, and each beast carries weapons mounted directly into its chassis, giving them the look of something between a trained killer and a walking siege engine. Their handler, a hulking power-armoured warrior draped in skull iconography and ornate chest reliefs, directs his pack with the calm authority of someone who has done this a hundred times before, one gauntleted hand resting on a hound's head while the other points toward the enemy line.

Up close, the detail on each piece rewards careful attention. The hounds vary in silhouette, with one carrying the broad, heavy-jowled head of a fighting breed and another the sharp, pointed ears and lean musculature of a pursuit dog, both fitted with layered armour panels decorated in scrollwork, mechanical seals, and grim trophy iconography. Heavy chains link handler to hound, and every link has been sculpted individually. The handler's armour carries the same visual language throughout, with a central skull motif framed in flourishing relief work across the breastplate, bolted trim on the shoulder guards, and thick knee armour etched with further detail.

This set was sculpted by Atlan Forge and arrives as a physical resin miniature squad, supports already removed, cleaned, and ready to assemble and paint. The handler stands approximately 40mm to the top of his helmet, and the hounds range from 25mm to 30mm at the shoulder.

Whether you field them as a handler unit with accompanying beasts or split them across your warband as individual pieces, the Dogs of War bring a strong visual identity to any force built around power and controlled aggression.

Painting Guide: Dogs of War

These models reward a layered approach that plays the warm, ornate metalwork against darker, grittier tones on the flesh and mechanical parts of the hounds. Take your time with the baroque scroll details and the hound faces, as these carry most of the character.

1. Prime

• Prime with a mid-grey or black spray for maximum contrast depth on the heavy armour panels and recessed mechanical details.

2. Armour Base

• Base coat armour panels in a dark iron tone such as Leadbelcher or Iron Hands Steel for a used, battle-worn finish.
• For a warmer reading, mix in a touch of brown over the basecoat before shading to push toward aged bronze.

3. Trim and Details

• Pick out the scrollwork, skull reliefs, and panel borders in a brass or gold tone, applying carefully with a fine detail brush.
• Shade the gold trim with a thin wash of dark brown or sepia to pull the ornate detail forward without losing the metallic sheen.

4. Weapons

• Paint integrated weapons and barrel ends in a darker steel than the main armour, using a near-black metallic for contrast.
• Add a faint verdigris glaze into recessed areas of any bronze fittings to suggest age and corrosion.

5. Weathering

• Drybrush raised armour edges lightly with a bright silver to simulate combat wear and scratching across the plating.
• Apply thin rust streaks downward from rivets and joints using a stippled orange-brown mix and a torn blister foam piece.

6. Bases

• Texture paste in a rubble or ash waste finish suits these models well. Add tufts of dead grass or a cracked earth effect, then tie the rim colour to the rest of your warband for visual consistency across the squad.
