The Diseased Sporemorphs Squad is a pack of six snarling daemonic predators, lithe and lethal creatures measuring 24 to 35mm from feet to eyes whose corrupted forms blur the line between daemon, beast and plague-born organism. Each sporemorph is a lean bipedal horror, its wiry musculature stretched over a frame of jutting spines, curling tails and clawed extremities that end in razor talons capable of shredding flesh and light armour with equal ease. Horned, fanged faces snarl with mindless aggression, their expressions frozen in the permanent ecstatic fury of creatures that exist solely to spread contamination and deliver violent death.

The diseased nature of the Sporemorphs runs deeper than surface corruption. Small technological implants and circular mechanical nodes are embedded directly into their flesh at chest and joint points, suggesting these creatures have been partially interfaced with some form of plague-vector delivery system that enhances their already formidable biological lethality. These are not simply feral beasts but engineered vectors of contagion, released into enemy formations to spread panic, disorder and infection simultaneously.

All six models capture explosive kinetic energy in their poses, each frozen at a different point in their hunting sequence. One rears up with arms spread wide in a territorial display, another springs forward mid-leap with both clawed hands reaching, a third crouches low and coiled behind a shattered stone barricade in ambush position, while the remaining trio circle and advance with predatory patience. Together they present a varied and visually dynamic unit that rewards viewing from every angle.

The centrepiece model crouches over a toppled stone marker, using it as a launchpad, its long whipping tail and forward-reaching claws conveying the terrifying moment just before a diseased killing blow lands. This figure anchors the group beautifully as a natural focal point and champion candidate.

Supplied as six unpainted, unassembled resin miniatures in eight parts total, the Diseased Sporemorphs Squad is an outstanding fast attack or skirmish unit for any collector drawn to the plague-touched and predatory end of the grimdark aesthetic.

Painting Guide: Diseased Sporemorphs Squad

The Sporemorphs reward a high-contrast organic approach with sickly pallid skin tones pushed against deep shadowed recesses, making these lean fast-moving creatures look genuinely predatory and plague-born under tabletop lighting.

1. Prime

  • Prime black to establish deep shadow across the lean muscled frames and spinal detail, providing maximum contrast for the sickly skin tones built up above.

2. Armour Base

  • Basecoat skin in Rakarth Flesh or Pallid Wych Flesh for a cadaverous pallor, then glaze over selectively with thinned Plaguebearer Flesh or Loren Forest to introduce sickly green disease tones into recessed areas and belly surfaces.
  • Highlight the uppermost skin surfaces back toward pure Pallid Wych Flesh or White Scar on the sharpest ridges of muscle, spine tips and knuckle points to create dramatic contrast.

3. Trim and Details

  • Paint horn spines, claws and tail tips in Rhinox Hide built up through Gorthor Brown to Ushabti Bone at the sharpest points, suggesting dense keratinous growths hardened by years of plague-born mutation.
  • Wash all skin recesses deeply with Athonian Camoshade and apply Nurgle's Rot technical paint sparingly around the mechanical implant nodes and mouth interiors for active biological horror.

4. Weapons

  • Paint the embedded mechanical implant nodes in dark corroded iron using Leadbelcher washed with Nuln Oil and Typhus Corrosion, suggesting technology long since consumed by the surrounding diseased flesh.
  • Add a faint sickly green OSL glow emanating from implant nodes and eye sockets using thinned Moot Green over a Warboss Green base to suggest active plague-vector energy pulsing through the creatures.

5. Weathering

  • These creatures need minimal weathering as the corruption is biological rather than mechanical — add thin streaks of thinned Carroburg Crimson running from claw tips and fang edges to suggest fresh kills.
  • Apply pale dust pigment very sparingly to feet and lower legs only, keeping the upper body skin clean and pallid to maximise the sickly diseased flesh effect throughout.

6. Bases

  • Contaminated wasteland or plague swamp bases suit these models perfectly: dark brown texture paste drybrushed with Baneblade Brown and Ushabti Bone, with gloss varnish pooled in low points to suggest infected standing water, scattered mushroom tufts and sickly yellow static grass completing the plague garden aesthetic.
