The Daemon Birdfused Wings are three agents of impossible mutation and aerial devastation, warrior-creatures standing 28mm from bottom to eyes whose bodies have been irrevocably transformed by the whims of a capricious and unknowable cosmic power. Each figure combines a powerfully muscled humanoid torso with avian features, taloned raptor feet, great feathered wings erupting from shoulder blades, and heads fused into predatory bird skulls with cruel hooked beaks and glassy intelligent eyes that gleam with supernatural daemon awareness. These are not soldiers. They are instruments of change given terrible physical form.
The three warriors each present a distinct stage of daemonic transformation and a unique combat posture. The first strides forward with wings spread wide in a threat display, its lean athletic frame barely clothed in tattered wrappings, every sinew coiled and ready to strike. The centrepiece figure crouches low on a shattered stone plinth, bladed feather-quills fanning out like a crown of knives behind its head, talons gripping the edge as it prepares to launch skyward. The third warrior pins a fallen armoured enemy underfoot, leaning in with predatory focus, savouring the moment of absolute dominance.
Their battlefield role is harassment, disruption and psychological terror. Moving with unnatural speed across any terrain, these creatures strike exposed flanks and vulnerable command elements before withdrawing before a coherent response can be mounted. The bladed feather quills forming their wing structures serve as both display and weapon, capable of launching in razor-edged volleys at close range, while their talons shred light armour with contemptuous ease.
Visually the Birdfused Wings inhabit a compelling space between tribal warrior and daemonic entity. Primitive cloth wrappings and ritual bindings suggest a culture that once shaped these beings, while the avian mutations speak of forces far beyond mortal tradition. Each scenic base is individually crafted, featuring crumbling stonework, loose rubble and one striking defeated warrior crushed beneath a victor's talon.
Supplied as three unpainted, unassembled resin miniatures in six parts total, the Daemon Birdfused Wings are an outstanding addition to any collection drawn to the stranger and more unsettling corners of the grimdark universe.
Painting Guide: Birdfused Wings
The Birdfused Wings reward an iridescent jewel-toned approach that contrasts supernatural feather colours against warm human skin tones, creating a genuinely otherworldly visual effect on the tabletop.
1. Prime
- Prime white for maximum colour vibrancy, particularly important for achieving the bright iridescent feather tones that define the daemonic avian mutation aesthetic on these models.
2. Armour Base
- Basecoat skin in Cadian Fleshtone or Bugman's Glow for warm human tones, or alternatively Dechala Lilac for a more mutated supernatural skin palette suggesting deeper daemonic corruption.
- Highlight skin surfaces up through Kislev Flesh or Pallid Wych Flesh on the highest points of muscle and cheekbone, keeping transitions smooth and naturalistic.
3. Trim and Details
- Paint feathers and wing membranes in shifting iridescent tones, starting with Thousand Sons Blue at the base, transitioning through Ahriman Blue and Baharroth Blue to white at quill tips for a supernatural peacock effect.
- Wash feather recesses with Drakenhof Nightshade and apply Contrast Magos Purple into deep wing fold shadows to add depth and colour complexity throughout.
4. Weapons
- Paint bladed quill tips and talon claws in polished bone using Screaming Skull highlighted to White Scar at the sharpest cutting edges.
- Add a faint pink or gold OSL glow at the base of blade quills using thinned Volupus Pink or Yriel Yellow to suggest supernatural daemonic energy channelled through the mutation.
5. Weathering
- Keep weathering minimal to preserve the otherworldly aesthetic — small amounts of dried blood on talon tips using thinned Carroburg Crimson adds narrative without undermining the supernatural appearance.
- Apply pale dust pigment sparingly to feet and lower legs only, keeping the upper body and wings clean and visually vibrant throughout.
6. Bases
- Crumbling ancient stonework suits these models perfectly: grey texture paste drybrushed in Administratum Grey and Ulthuan Grey, with dead grass tufts, scattered stones and optional arcane crystalline fragments in teal or purple to reinforce the daemonic mutation theme.
