Coven of the Black Woods presents the Great Eater, a towering and unsettling figure drawn from the darkest corners of a chaos cult warband. This physical resin miniature arrives with supports already removed, cleaned, and ready to assemble and paint. Standing at approximately 66mm in height, the Great Eater is a hulking, rotund warrior adorned with torn robes, ritual scarring, and a grotesque face-concealing helm crawling with organic detail.

The sculpt is rich with narrative. A massive cleaver rests across one shoulder, chained to a hanging cauldron filled with skulls. A pentagram brand marks the figure's back, and the clothing is ragged and decayed, hinting at years of dark devotion. Armoured plates and iron bangles contrast with exposed, corrupted flesh. Every surface rewards careful painting, with layers of texture inviting washes, drybrushing, and freehand detail work.

This miniature is a perfect centrepiece or elite unit choice for any grimdark warband collection. The Coven of the Black Woods range is known for its bold, character-driven sculpts that sit comfortably alongside 28-32mm scale collections while carrying their own distinct identity. The Great Eater is supplied as a single figure and is cast in high-quality grey resin.

Whether you are building a cult-themed skirmish force or looking for a striking display piece, this model delivers exceptional detail and presence on the tabletop. The Coven of the Black Woods aesthetic blends folk horror with brutal warrior iconography to produce something genuinely memorable.

Painting Guide: Coven of the Black Woods - Great Eater

The following guide is designed for intermediate painters and will help you bring out the full character of this grimdark figure across all its rich surface textures.

1. Prime

  • Apply a grey or black spray primer for maximum shadow retention across the deep detail
  • Use a zenithal highlight of white or pale grey from above to pre-shade the model

2. Armour Base

  • Basecoat the iron plates with Leadbelcher or a dark metallic grey
  • Apply a wash of Nuln Oil or Agrax Earthshade to deepen recesses and suggest old, worn metal

3. Trim and Details

  • Paint ritual bangles and chain links in a tarnished brass using Gehenna's Gold, washed with Seraphim Sepia
  • Pick out the pentagram brand and scarification with a dark reddish brown, then glaze with a thin red to imply inflammation

4. Weapons

  • Base the cleaver blade in Ironbreaker, then apply heavy stippling with Typhus Corrosion for a rusted, pitted look
  • Drybrush the cauldron with Ryza Rust over a brown base and add green Nihilakh Oxide into the deep recesses

5. Weathering

  • Add streaking grime effects to the robes using diluted Agrax Earthshade, pulling downward from damage points
  • Use sponge chipping with Abaddon Black and Ironbreaker on all metal surfaces to suggest battlefield wear

6. Bases

  • Texture the base with dark forest earth tones and add static grass or moss flock to suggest a woodland ritual site
