The Wai Toa Aegis Captain is a towering figure of authority and destruction, sculpted in extraordinary detail for the serious sci-fi wargaming hobbyist. This single-model release stands approximately 50mm to the top of its spiked halo crown, commanding immediate presence on any battlefield. Clad in heavy layered power armour decorated with geometric engravings, brutal shoulder spikes, and a sweeping battle cloak, this warrior carries both a serrated halberd and a secondary blade, ready to carve through enemy lines without hesitation.
Every surface of this model rewards close inspection. The chest plate features angular iconography, the gauntlets are heavily segmented with mechanical detail, and the sun-ray halo behind the helmet creates a silhouette that is instantly recognisable across the tabletop. The base features rocky rubble elements including a small trophy skull detail, adding further narrative depth to the composition.
This physical resin miniature arrives with supports already removed and surfaces cleaned, ready for assembly where applicable and straight into your painting queue. It is supplied unpainted and unassembled. Superglue is recommended for any multi-part joins. As with all fine resin miniatures, a light wash before priming is advised to remove any release agent residue.
The Wai Toa Aegis Captain fits seamlessly into grimdark sci-fi wargaming collections, working as a centrepiece hero model, a warband leader, or a commanding centrepiece for display. Whether you are building a themed force or simply want a striking painted display piece, this model delivers the scale, presence, and detail to justify pride of place on any shelf or gaming board.
Painting Guide: Wai Toa Aegis Captain - Atlan Forge, Sci-Fi Wargaming MiniaturesThe following guide offers a practical approach to painting the Wai Toa Aegis Captain to a high tabletop standard, with optional steps to push it toward display quality.
1. Prime
- Spray with a grey or black primer to capture the deep recesses of the armour panels and spike details.
- A zenithal highlight using white or light grey over the grey base will pre-shade the model and speed up later highlighting.
2. Armour Base
- Apply a deep charcoal or dark blue-grey as the main armour colour across all plating.
- Layer up with a lighter mid-tone on raised edges and panel centres, leaving recesses dark for natural depth.
3. Trim and Details
- Pick out the halo crown, armour trim, and engraved symbols in a warm bronze or aged gold to contrast the dark armour.
- Use a fine brush to apply a brown wash over the metallic trim areas to create tarnished, battle-worn character.
4. Weapons
- Basecoat the halberd shaft in a warm brown, then drybrush lightly with bone to suggest aged wood or wrapped cord.
- Paint the blades in dark steel and edge highlight with bright silver, focusing on the sharpest points for visual impact.
5. Weathering
- Apply chipping effects with a torn foam sponge using a dark brown followed by a thin silver highlight on the same chips.
- Add streaking grime effects using thinned brown or raw umber oil paint, drawn vertically down armour panels with a dry brush.
6. Bases
- Paint the rocky rubble elements in mid-grey, wash with dark brown or black, then drybrush with light stone for a battle-worn wasteland look.
- Consider adding tufts of dead grass or small pebbles to tie the model into a coherent grimdark battlefield theme.
This is an adult hobbyist collectible, not a toy. Not suitable for children under 14 years due to small, detailed parts.
