The Thunderclaw Gunship is a heavily armed resin sci-fi dropship miniature, bristling with multi-barrel rotary cannons, twin forward-facing gun arrays, and a pair of massive toothed thruster pods that lend it an unmistakably brutal silhouette. Designed for the grimdark wargaming table, this model captures the raw industrial menace of a craft built to punch through contested airspace and deliver punishment at close range. Every surface is layered with riveted plating, recessed panelling, and raised mechanical detail that rewards careful brushwork and washes alike.
The Thunderclaw Gunship arrives as a physical resin miniature with supports already removed and surfaces cleaned. It is supplied in multiple parts ready to assemble with superglue before painting. The model measures approximately 120mm in length and 100mm across the thruster span, making it a commanding centrepiece for any sci-fi wargaming force. A skull motif emblem panel on the fuselage adds faction character without tying the model to any single army.
Sculpted by Atlan Forge, this kit is intended for use as a gunship, dropship, or close air support asset in 28mm to 32mm scale sci-fi tabletop games. Its aggressive forward-leaning pose and layered armour panels make it equally at home as a display piece or a functional wargaming model. The underside belly cannon and rear stabiliser fins give the craft a believable three-dimensional profile from every angle.
Whether you are building a mercenary strike force, a renegade fleet, or a heavily mechanised warband, the Thunderclaw Gunship delivers the visual weight and tactical presence that centrepiece models demand. Paint it in battle-worn steel, corporate grey, or scorched black to suit your force.
Painting Guide: Thunderclaw Gunship – Resin Sci-Fi Dropship ModelThe large flat armour plates and deep recesses on this model make it ideal for contrast and wash techniques. Work from dark to light, letting gravity carry your shades into the panel lines naturally.
1. Prime
- Apply a grey or black spray primer across the entire model at a distance of 25-30cm for even coverage.
- Check all recesses are fully coated before proceeding.
2. Armour Base
- Basecoat the hull panels in a mid-grey or dark steel tone using a large flat brush or airbrush.
- For a warmer industrial look, mix in a small amount of brown ochre to the grey.
3. Trim and Details
- Pick out raised panel edges, vents, and mechanical conduits in a lighter grey or silver.
- Use a fine detail brush to apply a dark brown or black contrast paint into all recessed lines.
4. Weapons
- Paint all cannon barrels and rotary gun housings in dark iron or gunmetal, then edge-highlight in bright silver.
- Add a thin glaze of orange-brown to suggest heat staining around the muzzles.
5. Weathering
- Apply a brown or grey oil wash across the entire model, wiping back excess from flat surfaces after ten minutes.
- Use a torn blister foam to stipple chipped paint effects along leading edges and impact zones.
6. Bases
- If displayed on a flight stand, consider a rubble or scorched earth base to reinforce the low-altitude combat theme.
