The Alcat Rats Assault Riders charge into the fray as a brutal and highly detailed squad of five mounted raiders, each one sculpted by DakkaDakka with a grimdark edge that suits any post-apocalyptic or dark science-fantasy warzone. Each figure measures 29mm from feet to eyes, giving them a commanding presence on the tabletop without overwhelming neighbouring infantry units.

This squad arrives as physical resin miniatures with supports already removed and surfaces cleaned where needed. The five riders come in distinct dynamic poses, ranging from a lance-lowered cavalry charge to a rearing warhorse with a staff raised high. Each mount is heavily detailed with saddle bags, harness straps, and battlefield detritus worked into the scenic bases. The riders themselves wear layered armour with hoods, visored helms, and a mix of close-combat and ranged weapons across the nine weapon options included in the set.

The Alcat Rats Assault Riders are designed for use in grimdark skirmish games, mass-battle rank-and-flank systems, or as centrepiece display models. Whether you field them as scout cavalry, raider outriders, or elite shock troops, this squad brings variety and aggression to any collection. Two of the five models feature elaborate rubble and brick-scatter basing inserts that lock into the standard oval bases supplied.

Assembly is required on some multi-part figures. Super glue is recommended. Models arrive ready to prime and paint.

Painting Guide: The Alcat Rats Assault Riders Squad (x5)

This guide is designed to help hobbyists achieve a gritty, battlefield-worn look that suits the grimdark aesthetic of The Alcat Rats Assault Riders perfectly.

1. Prime

  • Apply a zenithal prime using black from below and grey from above. This pre-shading saves time on all subsequent steps and gives instant depth to the armour panels.

2. Armour Base

  • Base coat all armour plates with a dark, desaturated green or charcoal grey to suggest field-worn military kit.
  • Thin your base coat to two light layers rather than one heavy coat to preserve the fine surface detail.

3. Trim and Details

  • Pick out buckles, rivets, and strap fittings in a dull bronze or aged brass tone using a fine detail brush.
  • Paint cloth elements such as hoods and cloaks in a muted ochre or worn brown to contrast the dark armour.

4. Weapons

  • Paint lance shafts and staff poles in a mid-brown wood tone, adding a lighter streak along the top edge to suggest grain.
  • Metallics on blades and spear tips work well with a dark silver base followed by a careful edge highlight of bright steel.

5. Weathering

  • Apply a dark brown or black wash across all recesses. Wipe back excess from raised surfaces while still wet to keep highlights clean.
  • Use a small sponge or torn blister foam to stipple chipped paint effects onto armour edges, adding raw metal tones beneath.

6. Bases

  • Drybrush the rubble and brick inserts with light grey and cream tones, then glaze with a diluted brown wash to unify the palette and tie horses to their environment.

This is an adult hobbyist collectible, not a toy. Not suitable for children under 14 years due to small, detailed parts.
