Each physical resin miniature arrives with supports already removed and cleaned, ready to assemble and paint. Painting Guide: Space Knight Storm Squad With Jetpacks by DakkaDakka, Sci-Fi Wargaming Miniatures, 32mm ScaleThe Space Knight Storm Squad With Jetpacks rewards careful layered painting. The large flat armour panels and intricate mechanical jetpacks give you plenty of room to explore contrast and weathering techniques. The guide below walks you through a grimdark, battle-worn finish suited to veterans of constant aerial combat.
1. Prime
- Apply a grey or black spray primer in thin, even coats across all surfaces.
- Ensure jetpack cylinders and undersides of pauldrons are fully covered before proceeding.
2. Armour Base
- Basecoat the armour plates with your chosen chapter colour. Deep navy, iron grey, or muted green all suit this aesthetic.
- Apply a second thin coat where coverage is uneven, keeping recesses dark.
3. Trim and Details
- Pick out rivets, belt buckles, and collar rings in a brass or gold metallic.
- Paint skull iconography in off-white, then shade with a diluted brown wash to add depth.
4. Weapons
- Basecoat chainswords and axe heads with dark metal, then drybrush a bright silver to highlight teeth and edges.
- Pistol bodies can match the armour colour or be painted black for contrast.
5. Weathering
- Apply a dark brown or black oil wash into all panel recesses and around jetpack exhausts.
- Use a sponge or stippling brush to dab chipped silver onto armour edges, simulating battle damage.
- Add streaks of rust-orange pigment along jetpack vents for exhaust scorching.
6. Bases
- Use fine sand or grit glued to an appropriately sized round base for a rubble battlefield look.
- Drybrush the base in pale grey or bone, then add tufts of static grass or alien moss for colour.
