The Steel Union Standard Bearer Miniature brings a commanding, grimdark presence to any sci-fi infantry warband. Standing 33 mm from feet to eyes, this single-model release depicts a hooded, gas-masked soldier striding forward beneath a tattered battle standard, its pennant caught mid-billow as though the winds of a poisoned warzone carry it onward. The figure wears layered trench armour over a long coat, shoulder guards, and a cross-marked helm, combining the aesthetic of a crusading holy warrior with the brutal utility of a frontline trooper.
Supplied as a physical resin miniature with supports already removed and surfaces cleaned, the model arrives ready to assemble and paint. The kit includes a generous selection of interchangeable weapon arms: a power axe, a lasrifle, a shotgun, a bolt pistol pairing, and a grenade option, giving you meaningful squad customisation for use as a standard bearer or a general infantry bearer model in your chosen ruleset. All swap arms are cast in the same high-quality grey resin as the main figure.
The Steel Union Standard Bearer Miniature is ideal as a centrepiece unit or as a command model to anchor a line infantry squad. The dynamic pose, the windswept banner, and the gas-mask detail make it a rewarding subject for both beginner and experienced painters who enjoy grimdark aesthetics.
This model is produced by DakkaDakka and is compatible with standard 32 mm oval bases. It is sold as a single miniature with alternate weapon arm options as shown.
Painting Guide: Steel Union Standard Bearer Miniature – Choragiew BearerThe following steps will help you bring this grimdark standard bearer to life with a battle-worn, campaign-hardened finish that suits the Steel Union Standard Bearer Miniature perfectly.
1. Prime
- Apply a grey or black spray primer in thin, even coats. Grey primer works well for lighter armour schemes while black primer deepens shadows naturally.
2. Armour Base
- Basecoat the armour plates with a neutral steel grey or a cold blue-grey tone for a utilitarian military look.
- Apply a thin coat of off-white or bone to the long coat and banner, keeping it slightly uneven to suggest aged, weathered fabric.
3. Trim and Details
- Pick out the cross on the helm and any devotional symbols in a dull gold or aged brass to reinforce the crusader-order aesthetic.
- Paint the gas mask lenses in a deep amber or red to create an unsettling focal point on the face.
4. Weapons
- Paint chosen weapon arms in a dark gunmetal, drybrushed lightly with bright silver to bring out the raised edges and mechanical detail.
- Add a spot colour such as worn red or green to any cabling, grips, or power coils to break up the metallic tones.
5. Weathering
- Apply a dark brown or black wash across all recesses on the armour and coat to create deep, grimy shadow.
- Use a fine brush to stipple on chipping effects in dark brown and then bright silver, concentrating on pauldron edges and boot toe-caps.
6. Bases
- Texture paste in a mud-grey or ash-waste tone suits the grimdark setting well. Add small pebbles, static grass tufts in pale yellow, or a fragment of rusted debris to tell the story of the battlefield environment.
