The Steel Union Holy Steel Battalion is a squad of ten heavily armoured warriors, each one sculpted with extraordinary detail and a commanding presence that makes them an instant centrepiece for any collection or wargaming force. Clad in layered plate armour over chainmail tabards, these soldiers blend a medieval crusading aesthetic with gothic industrial weaponry, carrying long-barrelled rifles, swords with attached bayonets, heavy maces, axes, and ornate shields bearing devotional cross iconography. Every helmet is fitted with reinforced visors and breath filters, giving the unit a timeless yet uncompromising character.

This set contains ten individual figures, each on its own oval base. Standing approximately 33mm from feet to eyes, the sculpts are rich in surface texture: every ring of the chainmail is crisp, the plate edges are cleanly defined, and the weapon details reward careful brushwork. Poses vary across the squad, from braced firing stances and shield-forward defensive postures to dynamic melee and command figures, ensuring the unit looks cohesive yet alive on the tabletop.

Each miniature arrives as a physical resin casting, supports already removed and surfaces cleaned and prepared, ready for assembly where required and painting straight from the box. No additional printing or preparation tools are needed. Whether you are building a collection, running a narrative campaign, or fielding a competitive force, the Steel Union Holy Steel Battalion delivers presence, character, and exceptional sculpting quality in a single purchase.

Sculptor: DakkaDakka. Scale: 33mm (feet to eyes). Set contains 10 models.

Painting Guide: Steel Union Holy Steel Battalion

These figures reward a methodical, layered approach. The combination of plate armour, chainmail, and detailed weapon components gives you plenty of opportunities to create visual contrast and bring the unit to life.

1. Prime

  • Apply a thin, even coat of grey or black primer. Grey primer suits a bright steel finish; black primer deepens shadows for a grimmer palette.

2. Armour Base

  • Basecoat all plate sections with a dark iron or steel grey, such as Leadbelcher or Scale75 Speed Metal.
  • Apply a thin, even layer over the chainmail separately using a darker metallic to help distinguish the two textures.

3. Trim and Details

  • Pick out cross iconography, shield reliefs, and belt hardware in a gold or brass tone for strong visual contrast against the steel armour.
  • Use a fine brush for the helmet visor lenses and filter details, painting these in a deep amber or green to suggest a contained energy.

4. Weapons

  • Paint the barrels and mechanical components of the rifles in a cold steel highlighted up to near-silver at the edges.
  • Wooden or wrapped grip sections can be basecoated in a warm brown and drybrushed lighter to suggest age and use.

5. Weathering

  • Apply a wash of dark brown or black over the whole model to settle into the recesses of the chainmail and deepen the shadows in the plate joints.
  • Drybrush the raised surfaces of the armour lightly with a bright silver to simulate battle wear and catch the light naturally.

6. Bases

  • Texture the bases with a fine grit paste or sand, paint in a dark earth tone, and drybrush with a pale stone colour. A static grass tuft or scatter at the rim ties the squad together on the table.
