The Coven of the Black Woods presents its Captured warband, a squad of four dark prisoner warriors bound in heavy chains, iron masks, and brutal restraints yet still poised to strike with savage fury. Each figure stands approximately 32mm scale and captures the grim reality of warriors who have been shackled but never truly broken. The sculpts feature extraordinary detail across every surface, from the bolted iron face masks and padlocked chain wrappings to the runic brands scarred into flesh and the crude weapons gripped in manacled hands.
This set includes four unique resin miniatures, each in a distinct combat pose. One raises a heavy maul overhead in a crushing overhead strike. A second crouches low, clutching a bone-handled blade in a tense, coiled stance. A third stands defiant with a cleaver, runes etched across chest and shoulder. The fourth lashes out with a chain-wrapped fist, chains dragging at its ankles. Every figure in this Coven of the Black Woods release arrives as a physical resin cast, supports already removed and surfaces cleaned, ready for assembly and paint.
Squad size is four models. The miniatures are cast in high-detail grey resin and may require light assembly depending on pose. A hobby knife, plastic or super glue, and a suitable base are recommended. These figures suit any grimdark warband collection, dungeon encounter set, or skirmish game requiring fearsome prisoner warrior archetypes.
The Coven of the Black Woods Captured squad rewards painters who enjoy contrast and grime. Raw skin against rusted iron, worn leather wrappings, and corroded chains offer a rich variety of textures to work across.
Painting Guide: Coven of the Black Woods - CapturedThese figures respond beautifully to a dark, grimdark palette. Begin with a solid prime coat and work up from shadow to highlight across each material type.
1. Prime
- Apply a black or dark grey spray primer across all models to lock in the deep shadows within the chain links and masked recesses.
2. Armour Base
- Base the iron masks and chains with a dark iron or gunmetal metallic, such as Leadbelcher or Scale75 Speed Metal.
- Apply a heavy wash of Nuln Oil or Dark Tone over all metal areas and allow to fully dry before highlighting.
3. Trim and Details
- Drybrush raised chain links and mask bolts lightly with a bright silver to pick out the edges without losing the dark base tone.
- Pick out runes and branded marks with a deep ochre or dried blood red, keeping strokes thin and controlled.
4. Weapons
- Paint the maul handle with a warm brown such as Mournfang Brown, then glaze with a dark wash for aged wood character.
- For bladed weapons, base in dark iron then edge highlight with silver and stipple with a thin rust orange near the base of each blade.
5. Weathering
- Use a sponge or stipple brush with a rust brown and orange mix to add corrosion textures across chains, locks, and cuffs.
- Add thin streaks of brown wash running downward from bolt heads and lock mechanisms to suggest long exposure to damp and neglect.
6. Bases
- Texture bases with fine sand or a dungeon flagstone paste, paint dark grey, and drybrush with a pale stone colour to complement the dark tones of the models above.
