Cortez's Comandante is a commanding presence on any grimdark battlefield, sculpted with relentless attention to detail and cast as a physical resin miniature ready to assemble and paint straight from the box. Measuring 32.9 mm from feet to eyes, this imposing figure blends archaic plate armour with brutalist sci-fi hardware, featuring a reinforced morion-style helm, a corrugated respirator hose, layered pauldrons, a belted greatcoat, and a long cloak that sweeps dramatically behind the figure. Every surface tells a story of centuries-long crusading, from the worn buckles at the waist to the ragged hem of the coat.
This listing includes two physical resin miniatures as shown in the images: one taller, senior variant and one shorter variant, each supplied on a textured oval base. Supports have already been removed and the pieces cleaned and sanded where needed, so you can move straight to assembly and painting without any additional preparation beyond a light wash and prime.
The sculpt is produced by DakkaDakka and draws on grimdark crusade aesthetics, making Cortez's Comandante an ideal centrepiece command figure for narrative skirmish games, display cabinets, or any sci-fi warband that favours a holy-warrior theme. The combination of flowing fabric, intricate armour panelling, and a single broad sword held at rest gives the figure a quietly authoritative silhouette that reads clearly at arm's length on the tabletop.
Each miniature is cast in high-quality grey resin, capturing fine surface textures including rivets, stitching on the coat, and the multi-filter respirator canister. The scale is compatible with standard 28 mm to 32 mm wargaming ranges.
Painting Guide: Cortez's Comandante - Grimdark Crusade MiniaturesThe following guide is designed to help you bring Cortez's Comandante to life with a battle-worn crusade colour scheme that emphasises aged metal, dusty cloth, and holy gold trim.
1. Prime
- Spray with a grey or black primer for maximum contrast and shadow retention on the deep panel lines.
- Allow to cure fully before handling to avoid fingerprint marks in the resin surface.
2. Armour Base
- Apply a mid-tone steel grey such as Leadbelcher or equivalent over all plate surfaces.
- Wash the entire armour with a dark brown or black shade to deepen recesses and establish shadow.
3. Trim and Details
- Pick out rivets, buckles, and cross iconography in a warm gold such as Retributor Armour or equivalent.
- Paint the respirator canister and hose in a dark oxidised bronze to suggest age and chemical exposure.
4. Weapons
- Basecoat the sword blade in a cold silver, then apply a directional highlight along the edge to suggest a honed cutting surface.
- Paint the grip or handle in dark leather brown, washed with a sepia tone for warmth.
5. Weathering
- Stipple chipping onto the armour plates using a torn blister foam and a dark brown, followed by a thin silver edge to simulate impact damage.
- Apply a thin rust streak from rivets downward using diluted orange-brown paint and a fine brush.
6. Bases
- Texture the base with fine ash grey sand or crumbled cork to suggest a ruined hab-zone or crypt floor.
- Drybrush the base in a light bone colour and add a spot of green or red OSL if a light source is desired.
