Automated Defense Platforms of the MSC pattern represent the cutting edge of battlefield perimeter control, combining autonomous drone sentinels with heavy ground-based turret emplacements to form an interlocking wall of firepower. This set includes five hovering robot drone units mounted on display poles and one large stationary turret emplacement, giving you a complete layered defense network for your tabletop battlefield. The drones measure approximately 48mm or 39mm from top to bottom, while the turret base measures 34x29mm at the footprint and stands 24mm tall.

Each miniature arrives as a physical resin casting, already removed from supports and cleaned, ready for assembly and painting. The drone units each feature distinct posing and weapon load-out configurations, with angular sensor fins, articulated arms, and compact weapon mounts that suggest rapid autonomous targeting. The turret emplacement carries a rocket pod launcher on one side and a twin-barrelled autocannon on the other, seated on a reinforced bunker base with grilled venting and armoured plating details throughout.

Automated Defense Platforms like these fit seamlessly into any grimdark sci-fi table, whether guarding a forward operating base, a derelict industrial complex, or the perimeter of a shattered hab-block. The mix of drone and turret unit types gives tactical variety both on the table and on the display shelf. The sculptor DakkaDakka has packed each piece with mechanical detail that rewards careful painting and dry-brushing techniques.

This set is ideal for collectors and wargamers who want to add automated sentinel units to their forces or terrain collections. Automated Defense Platforms of this scale pair well with infantry squads and vehicle units across a wide range of 28mm to 32mm compatible rulesets.

Painting Guide: Automated Defense Platforms - MSC Robot Drones and Turrets

The industrial mechanical aesthetic of these models rewards a layered approach that builds up from dark metallics to sharp edge highlights, with selective spot colour to bring weapon systems and sensor lenses to life.

1. Prime

  • Apply a black or dark grey primer coat for maximum shadow depth in the recesses.
  • A light zenithal spray of grey from above will pre-shade and speed up the base-coating stage.

2. Armour Base

  • Base coat the armour panels in a mid-grey or steel blue-grey for a cold mechanical look.
  • For a darker scheme, use a deep charcoal grey with a slight blue tint to suggest advanced plating.

3. Trim and Details

  • Pick out mechanical joints, vents, and structural frames in a dark gunmetal or iron tone.
  • Add a thin line of bright silver along raised panel edges to sharpen the silhouette of each unit.

4. Weapons

  • Paint rocket pod openings in a deep black, then add a tiny spot of dark red inside each tube for depth.
  • Highlight autocannon barrels with a thin edge of bright steel to suggest worn, well-used metal.

5. Weathering

  • Apply a dark brown or black wash across all surfaces and allow it to settle into every recess.
  • Use a sponge to dab chipped paint effects in burnt umber at corners and high-traffic areas of the armour.

6. Bases

  • For drone units, paint the pole and round base in a matching grey or stone tone and add a spot of texture paint or grit for a derelict ground surface effect.

This is an adult hobbyist collectible, not a toy. Not suitable for children under 14 years due to small, detailed parts.
