An Aegyptian sorcerer-lord of terrible renown, Ahyet Bahl strides the battlefield as a living conduit of forbidden arcane power, a being who has traded mortal frailty for an eternity of cold, calculating domination. His presence warps the air around him, reality itself bending to accommodate the sheer weight of psychic energy he contains. Where lesser commanders bark orders, Ahyet Bahl merely opens the tome cradled in his gauntleted hand, and armies crumble like dust caught in a solar wind.
His armour is a masterwork of ancient desert craftsmanship, layered scale plates reminiscent of a serpent's hide, etched with glyphs and astronomical sigils passed down through centuries of esoteric scholarship. A sweeping cloak of overlapping scales billows behind him like the wing of some vast predator, equal parts regal and ominous. The Aegyptian aesthetic runs through every panel and rivet: curved pauldrons, ornate knee guards, and a gorget that frames his pale, shaven face with the authority of a high priest-king.
Rising from his back is a halo of mechanical servo-skulls, some avian, some humanoid, tethered to him by coiling mechadendrite cables as though worshipping at the altar of his intellect. These skull-familiars serve as arcane amplifiers, relay nodes, and silent sentinels, their hollow eye sockets scanning the battlefield for threats invisible to mundane senses. In his left hand he grips a towering staff, its upper section wound with a serpentine form and capped with a complex mechanical reliquary, a focus of immense power, humming with barely restrained energy.
The tome he cradles is no mere book. Bound in materials that should not exist and inscribed with knowledge that should not be spoken aloud, it is the source of Ahyet Bahl's tactical genius and arcane authority. In the Aegyptian orders of sorcery, the archive is everything, to destroy the record is to destroy the civilisation, and he guards it accordingly. Enemies who have glimpsed its pages report geometric visions and an overwhelming sense of infinite, spiralling time.
On the tabletop, Ahyet Bahl represents a supreme HQ choice for any warband steeped in occult intellect and desert mysticism. Whether leading an elite squad of automaton warriors or anchoring a force of arcane infantry, this single figure radiates command presence, narrative weight, and hobby potential in equal measure.
Painting Guide: Ahyet Bahl, Archmage of Aegyptus
Ahyet Bahl rewards a careful, layered approach — this miniature's rich surface detail makes him an ideal showcase piece for painters of all skill levels.
1. Prime
- Grey or white primer for maximum colour accuracy; grey primer (e.g. Vallejo Surface Primer Grey) is recommended to let both dark and bright tones read clearly without over-saturation.
2. Armour Base
- Basecoat armour plates in a deep cerulean blue (e.g. Macragge Blue or Vallejo Magic Blue) to evoke ancient lapis lazuli stonework typical of Aegyptian iconography.
- Highlight up through Calgar Blue to Fenrisian Grey on raised scale edges, creating a sharp, celestial contrast that catches the light dramatically.
3. Trim and Details
- Apply rich gold metallics (e.g. Retributor Armour or Scale75 Dwarven Gold) to all trim, glyphs, and ornamental edging to reinforce the ancient Aegyptian regal aesthetic.
- Wash all metallic areas with Reikland Fleshshade or Agrax Earthshade to deepen recesses and add warmth; use Nuln Oil for cooler, darker shadow zones on armour panels.
4. Weapons
- Paint the staff shaft in dark iron (Leadbelcher + Nuln Oil wash), with the serpent coil picked out in aged brass or verdigris tones for antiquity.
- Consider a teal or turquoise OSL (object source lighting) glow emanating from the staff's reliquary tip and the tome's pages — Ahriman Blue or Baharroth Blue are excellent choices for this effect.
5. Weathering
- Apply fine scratches and chips to armour edges using a sponge technique with Skavenblight Dinge or dark grey, concentrated at leg plates and pauldrons where battle wear is most plausible.
- Dust the lower cloak, boots, and base rim with pigment powders in ochre and pale sand to suggest the endless desert campaigns of an Aegyptian warhost.
6. Bases
- Base in cracked desert sandstone — apply Texture paste in Agrellan Badland or Armageddon Dust, dry-brush with Ushabti Bone and white, then add scattered fragments of carved stone or hieroglyph-etched resin pieces to reinforce the ancient Aegyptian tomb-world atmosphere.
