Every miniature arrives with supports already removed and surfaces cleaned, so you can move straight to assembly and painting without any additional preparation work.

Each figure in the Steel Age Set has been sculpted with exceptional surface detail, including layered plate armour, etched leather straps, flowing cloaks, facial expressions, and intricate weapon fittings. This guide is written for intermediate painters and covers the techniques best suited to bringing out the depth and texture present across all figures in this set.

1. Prime

• Apply a thin, even coat of grey or black spray primer across all figures, holding the can approximately 30cm from the model.
• Allow full cure time of at least 2 hours before painting begins.

2. Armour Base

• Basecoat plate armour with a mid-grey or cold steel tone such as Vallejo Neutral Grey or Citadel Leadbelcher.
• Use a darker tone such as Abaddon Black for chainmail areas to create separation between armour layers.

3. Trim and Details

• Pick out decorative trim, buckles, and clasps with a brass or gold tone such as Retributor Armour.
• Use a fine detail brush to apply fabric and leather areas in deep brown or burgundy tones before washing.

4. Weapons

• Paint spear shafts and hafts in a warm walnut brown, drybrushed lightly with a lighter tan to lift the grain texture.
• Blade edges on swords and axes can be edge-highlighted with a near-white silver such as Stormhost Silver to suggest a honed cutting edge.

5. Weathering

• Apply a pin wash of Agrax Earthshade or Nuln Oil into all recessed areas of armour and weapons to deepen shadow and increase contrast.
• Drybrush raised armour surfaces lightly with Ironbreaker or a similar bright silver to simulate field wear and scratches.

6. Bases

• Apply texture paste or fine sand to the base, paint in dark earth tones, drybrush with pale stone, and finish with a few tufts of static grass for a battlefield aesthetic.
