Trench Crusade style - Mourning Bell

This Trench Crusade style resin miniature brings the grim sanctity of a corrupted holy war to your tabletop. The Mourning Bell is a towering, armoured figure mounted on a 60mm base, clutching a heavy cross-topped mace in one raised fist and carrying a thick tome in the other. A spiked halo encircles its bell-shaped helm, evoking sacred dread and battlefield liturgy in equal measure. The base is scattered with broken gravestones and Celtic crosses, grounding the model firmly in a blighted, trench-scarred world.

This physical resin miniature arrives with supports already removed and surfaces cleaned, ready for assembly and painting. It is a single large character piece scaled to suit 28mm to 32mm scale wargaming forces. The following guide is designed to bring out the grimdark religious character of this Trench Crusade style centrepiece model, using a muted, battle-worn palette suited to a world of eternal trench warfare and blighted faith.

1. Prime

• Apply a grey or off-white primer coat evenly across the entire model to preserve fine detail in the cloth and armour panels.

2. Armour Base

• Basecoat all armour plates with a mid-grey tone such as Mechanicus Standard Grey or equivalent.
• Apply a dark wash over all recesses to define panel lines and rivets, then layer back up with a lighter grey on raised edges.

3. Trim and Details

• Pick out the cross motifs, bell, and halo in a tarnished gold or aged brass to suggest sacred ornamentation worn by conflict.
• Paint the robes in a pale bone or aged linen tone, then shade with a sepia or brown wash for depth.

4. Weapons

• Paint the cross mace in dull steel with a dark wash, leaving bright spots only on the sharpest edges.
• Add spot rust with a stippled orange-brown on lower surfaces to suggest long campaigns in wet trenches.

5. Weathering

• Use a sponge or dry brush to chip the armour edges with a dark brown followed by silver to simulate battle damage.
• Apply a thin coat of dark brown glaze to the lower robes and base to suggest mud and battlefield grime.

6. Bases

• Paint the gravestones in weathered stone grey, add patches of dark brown soil, and finish with static grass or dead tufts for a cemetery atmosphere.
